About

Initially, I was going to use this page to introduce myself as a newly separated woman with kids.  My husband told me in September 2014 he was miserable and wanted a divorce, blah, blah, blah.

No more.

See “Why I’m Doing This” for my synopsis on how I got here.  This will be about me.

So, I have to give you at least this…I’m in my mid-thirties and was a real estate professional for 10 years.  I left my job a few years ago to care for my youngest and then decided to switch careers. Now I’m a teacher.

I’m a mother of two elementary aged children. My kids are my life.  I try not to be helicopter mom but I am obsessed with them.

I am generally a happy and optimistic person.  I love talking to people and making new friends.  I probably talk too much but we all have flaws, right?  I love to read and dance and travel.  Not things I’ve done a lot lately but it’s not too late!

I’ve taken up running again and found it to be a wonderful and healthy experience for my mind, body and soul.  I ran my first half marathon in January 2015!

I have an AMAZING family.  I’m Cuban American, live in Miami and have an incredibly supportive network of family and friends.  I will say that although a divorce can make you feel lonelier than you’ve ever felt before, it can also show you just who truly loves you and is “Ride or Die”.  I’m so blessed to be loved by such loyal people.

Pardon my grammatical errors and the sometimes strange lingo I use.  Hopefully, you’ll learn to love me as I am. 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me.  I hope to learn more about you soon!

Athena

  1. I’m sorry you have to go through this but appreciate the humor (dark as it may be at times) in your writing. Glad you found something productive and healthy (like running) to help you deal with this. I wish you much love, peace and happiness as you begin this new year.

    • Thank you so much for the kind words. 🙂 I’m trying my best. I keep telling myself that in terms of this situation, it could be worse. Doesn’t hurt less but it helps keep my perspective in place. I wish you a wonderful new year as well! 🙂

  4. At least you have a safety net to fall back on. Cherish them. Not everyone is as lucky as you.
I like the authenticity of your ramblings. It sound like real life. I have enough of make believe worlds in cyber space. All perfect and shiny. We all know that it is never like that in reality. So, keep doing what you’re doing and I wish you success.

    • Thanks, I really appreciate your comment. I’m in no way perfect and hope others find my venting relatable. I certainly found it helpful when I came across others going through the same thing. Almost like a guide. 🙂

I’ve tried to keep my perspective in place throughout this process. I know I’m luckier than most going through a divorce. It could be worse and I have a wonderful support group with family and friends. Thanks for the reminder and sweet wishes. I too wish you all the best. 🙂 xo

    • I’m very sorry to hear this. I look forward to getting to know you as well. Going through divorce has been the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I wish you lots of luck. It’s a great community of friends here and I welcome you to get to know some of the other lovely women out here that have had the misfortune of divorce. ❤️
