I hail from Miami.
Where it is hot.
And green.
And muggy.
And rainy.
Often. 😒
Our seasons range from crazy stupid hot to annoying hot to hot to nice cool breeze then a just-kidding-that-coolness-wasn’t-going-to-last warm.
Where am I going with this?
It is winter and other places around the country/world are actually getting snow.
I wanted a white Christmas this year.
Captain and I discussed getting away for a trip right before Christmas and easily settled on Colorado. A few things fell in place and off to Steamboat Springs we went!
And it was ah-mazing!!!
The drive from Denver to Steamboat was incredible. Pictures do not do the Rocky Mountains justice. Fellow blogger Grandfather Sky warned me to prepare to be in awe of it. He was absolutely correct.
The mountains were soooo picturesque…they looked fake!
Then we get into the town of Steamboat. And it was just perfection. People were friendly, the town was quaint, the snow was powdery and gleaming white and there were a number of incredibly fun things to do.
And several fun food and craft beer options if you knew where to go.
So what does a hot weathered gal like me do in a wintry weathered location like this?
We might have checked out a dispensary for gummy bears.
And tried the hot springs at Strawberry Park…
And went skiing…
Some fishing perhaps…
Shopping!

Definitely hot cocoa by the fireplace.
Even after all that fun, we didn’t get to do everything we’d hoped for. I would have loved to have gone snow-mobiling or tubing or had a sleigh ride to dinner… But I’ll have to leave that to next time.
So although I left Christmas eve, I feel like I got the white Christmas I was looking for. It was a wonderful getaway with Captain and really got me in the holiday spirit.
Colorado, you “rock!”
❤️

So envious! I’m in FL too. If i want a white Christmas, I have to shave the ice from the ice maker! Lol! Love the pics! I’ve got to go visit one day!

Where in FL are you? Lol! You crack me up! “Shave ice from the ice maker!”
It’s been crazy hot down here. At least when I went to Disney a couple of weekends ago, it was cooler at night but not really anything to brag about. Bleh. I want it to be cool already!

Nothing can compare to a white Christmas. It has been many, many years since i saw one. I miss them…but I miss so much. Have you ever tried snow cream? Nothing like it.

It’d been many years since I’d seen it, too. Especially in abundance like that.
What is snow cream?!?! I’m so curious! Lol

It’s snow in a bowl. You add a little bit of vanilla flavoring and a bit of sugar. Stir it up and it will freeze your throat off but it is delicious.
When I was young, I looked forward to it so much. The “cold war” was in full bloom so every year, it was suggested that we wait until the second snow for the snow cream because of the radiation from the atomic bomb testing. Later, it became the third and forth. I think now they advise not to make it because of the pollution but I still would….if I ever saw snow again.

What a fantastic trip you had! Your photos are beautiful, and all that snow – and the awesome mountains – make me really jealous. It looks as though we won’t have snow in the UK this year, apart from in the Highlands of Scotland. It’s so unseasonally mild, it’s ridiculous, and we all love a white Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed your holiday snaps, and I’m glad you had so much fun.

Thanks, Millie! It’s been strangely mild for much of this country as well so it was fun to see snow. Hope it cools off for you soon. Glad you liked the pics and thanks for stopping by! 🙂 xo

You’re in Canada, though, so you get snow and tons of natural beauty throughout your country. Not sure if you’d find Colorado as impressive. 🙂 I was in Ottawa last year and a cottage about 1.5 hrs away and absolutely loved it. 🙂

Today is the first significant snow fall. We had a green and gray Christmas. I’m four hours from Ottawa, but you’re right, there’s lots of natural beauty here.

How wonderful! I can’t take the cold, but it would be an excuse to buy some darling snow gear LOL. Fantastic pictures. You and your guy look so happy together 😃

Thanks, my friend. 🙂 I was able to borrow ski gear, thankfully, since I did not want to have to buy it! Cold weather does wonders for the hair, though! No humidity = great hair days!
And thanks… it really has been such a wonderful journey with him. I’m happy he’s been a great addition to my life.

How funny that those of us who are stuck living in the snow, usually hate it. And those that live in paradise (Miami is on my list of places to live) hate it too? Lovely pics!! Happy holidays!

Wait a minute, just wait a minute… Before you go planning a summer trip, please remember that the bluebonnets will be blooming in Austin in March and April. 🙂

Sounds like a great vacay. I don’t like beef jerky- don’t see the love about it.
Next time come my way, the Rocky’s are in our backyard. There is a nice touristic town 45 minutes from here.

Ugh. Beef jerky. Disgusting. It’s like a chew toy. I like my meat fresh and bloody. Lol
I wish I’d known you were out that way! You are lucky to have such a beautiful view at all times! Xo

Somehow stumbled upon your blog and was immediately drawn to it (I’m Canadian living in a freezing cold climate with dreams of moving to Daytona Beach one day), so it was fun to read how much fun you had hanging out in that winter wonderland. My son left for Denver on the 24th of December, and sadly, none of his pictures will be as lovely as yours. I’ll probably be looking at jelly shooters and beer pong. Beautiful blog post!

Hi Sandra! So nice to meet you! I’m glad you stumbled upon my blog. I can’t wait to read up on you.
I hope you get to Daytona Beach soon! Canada is soooo beautiful but so very cold. Lol
I hope your son enjoyed Denver and that his pictures are fun to look at! I’m sure there’ll be fun stories behind the beer pong and drunken partying! 😉 xo

Thanks! Beef jerky is lean meat dehydrated. I think it’s what Cowboys used to eat on long rides. It’s chewy and easy to take anywhere since it doesn’t have to be refrigerated. But I just find it to be gross. lol! 🙂

Colorado is beautiful. We lived in Utah for several years which is equally beautiful. Most people think of Mormons and not mountains when they think of Utah! I made the drive back home to the Midwest by way of Denver one year and as I drove I remember looking around and thinking, “This looks like something straight out of a movie set!”
It looks like you had a fantastic trip, and that breakfast looked amazing!

I’ve never been to Utah but hear that it’s absolutely stunning! I have a friend that lived there and loved it. The number of nature oriented things she was able to do was just amazing.
Colorado scenery did look like it was out of a movie set. Almost like something that perfect had to be fake. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by. It was a great trip. I wish I had a better camera to really have done it justice! Xo
